Why should our clients care what a ship agent is about?
2023 October, 12
A professional ship agent is known as a local port “expert”. This is the person who carries out the main communication and coordination and monitoring role with the parties concerned: shipowners, terminals, cargo owners, customs brokers, stevedores, etc.
When a ship enters a port, there are many formalities and procedures to complete. Routine processes include route confirmation, customs clearance, terminal allocation, etc.
Our ship agents provide the following basic services:
- Arranging the ship’s arrival and departure at the port, organizing pilotage and tug services.
- A husbandry service.
- Provide crew information to local migration authorities.
- Ensure that the ship’s documentation complies with international rules before customs inspection.
- Prepare customs notifications on the arrival of the vessel and on the cargo on board.
- Maintain close liaison with stevedores and terminal operators for the safe handling of cargo.
TLC’s long experience of working with shipowners and servicing ships in the Port of Klaipėda has developed our ship agents’ ability to react quickly to a wide range of situations, allowing us to offer reliable and efficient solutions to ensure the smoothest possible ship handling.
